SKYLINE CHESS
SKYLINE CHESS – Architecture Turned into a Game
Founded in London in 2013 by two architects and chess enthusiasts, Chris
Prosser and Ian Flood, Skyline Chess is a brand that combines strategy, architecture, and contemporary design into an iconic object.
The idea took shape almost as a game: the two founders, who were roommates at the time, spent their evenings challenging each other to chess matches while imagining city skylines transformed into chess pieces. From this insight, a unique concept was born: reinterpreting the world’s most iconic cities by transforming their landmark buildings into chess pieces.
Each Skyline Chess set is therefore a small miniature city. Rooks, kings, and queens
take the form of famous monuments and skyscrapers: from Big Ben and the London Eye
to the Empire State Building or the Eiffel Tower, creating a fascinating dialogue between
architecture and strategy.
At the heart of the project lies a strong focus on design and craftsmanship. The pieces
are crafted from high-quality materials—such as steel, special resins, or bronze and produced using techniques that blend technology with traditional craftsmanship.
Today, Skyline Chess has become an internationally recognized brand, capable of transforming a timeless classic into a contemporary design object, perfect both for playing and for display as a piece of furniture.
More than just a game, Skyline Chess is a convergence of architecture, art, and
strategy: a challenge between cities, encapsulated in a battle between cities, encapsulated in an elegant piece of design.
