In Blend (2025), Angelo Accardi sets his vision in a contemporary urban context, characterized by vertical architecture, serial volumes, and a rigorous perspective that recalls the rationality and anonymity of the modern metropolis.
At the center of the composition, a group of blue-bodied ostriches crosses the roadway like an unexpected and disturbing presence. Recurring figures in the artist's imagination, ostriches embody a sense of disorientation and misalignment with the space they inhabit, introducing a visual and conceptual fracture in the cityscape. Their saturated, unnatural color accentuates their strangeness, transforming them into symbols of a reality that defies ordinary logic.
On the left appears the Pink Panther, a universal icon of pop culture, inserted with irony and detachment into the scene. Its presence amplifies the short circuit between collective imagination, entertainment, and urban everyday life, without ever resolving into a unified narrative synthesis.
The pictorial surface is crossed by drips, splashes, and gestural interventions that interrupt the architectural precision of the background, giving the work a strong dynamic energy. Blend thus becomes a reflection on the overlapping of images, symbols, and languages that characterizes the present, where heterogeneous elements coexist in the same visual space, maintaining their own identity intact.
